We started with many small goals, but one true target: make this world more inclusive. For those who are not privileged – race, gender, orientation, physically, neurologically, financially, geographically, or otherwise marginalized – life is a struggle many cannot truly appreciate. We want to change that. While people may say “it’s just radio, a hobby, what do you think you are going to accomplish,” we say “every real change has to start.” Through radio, a medium that can circle the neighborhood or the globe, we have chosen to use this platform as our kickoff. A revolution cannot be done alone. If you are wondering if you can make a difference and what you can do, we have ideas.
Chose to be inclusive every day.
Chose to be not only an ally, but a defender. If you have privilege, don’t use it just for yourself. Use it to defend those who don’t have it. Be a protector.
Chose not to be silent and complicit in the face of oppression, no matter how small.
Chose to see that we are all people, not “us” and “those not like us.”
Chose to make an impact with one of the most powerful weapons in the modern world: money. Shop and support organizations that are inclusive, ethical, and accommodating.
Chose to avoid those that are not.
Chose to be fierce in your kindness.
Chose to be just in your anger.
Chose to listen not to be comfortable, but to understand.
Chose to recognize that through things you didn’t control, you have privilege that others do not. Their lack of privilege is not a failing on their part, it just exists and is real.
Chose to mentor those who can benefit from your knowledge, skills, and experience.
Chose to be patient, empathetic, and compassionate.
Chose to recognize that you are unique, just like everyone else.
Chose to recognize that life is not a competition. We all end up in the same place, no one wins in the end, so don’t make getting there hard.
Chose to be remembered not by what you accomplished financially, but how you loved.
Chose protest.
Chose to be heard.
Chose to VOTE. Not for just your interests, but for what will make the world better for everyone who struggles.
Chose to donate radios and gear to someone who could use it and has less than you.
Chose to be an Elmer.
Alliance Amateur Radio Society does not believe that financial situation should be a barrier to enjoying radio. We do not collect dues for membership. If you would like to help our cause, donations are greatly appreciated.
