So when we recently had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Martens, ‪@KB9VBRAntennas‬ , conversation naturally drifted beyond technical topics and into the culture of the hobby itself—where we’ve been, where we’re going, and how we can make amateur radio a place where everyone feels welcome to key the mic.

Martens is widely known across the amateur radio world as a YouTube educator, antenna designer, and public official. But beneath the technical expertise is something just as important: a strong belief that the amateur radio community works best when it actively chooses respect, curiosity, and inclusion.
